AltCap , renamed BitCap

There was a strategic decision to rename AltCap to Bitcap, just for today’s newsletter, how could we miss out on the hype and possibility to attract billions. Bitcoin has the whole world and every investor making predictions on where the Crypto ‘currency’ market is heading.

The latest of which is world renowned value investor, Warren Buffet. Stating that ‘cryptocurrencies will almost certainly end bad’. He does however admit ignorance around the topic of ‘cryptocurrencies’ which in the same breath is not too reassuring.

With no doubt that the price increases in Cryptocurrencies cannot continue, or can it? It is absurd that stay at home moms, car guards and even your local butcher is talking about bitcoin, but yet 15 years ago your go to apps and technology didn't exist? So are we just in another phase of change or is this just a bubble with a thick skin.

On a side note, complements of the season from the AltCap team, we hope you are as excited for this year as we are!

Just a quick update from our side, if you would like to make use of the Tax Saving of up to 45%, provided through investing in the AltCap fund for this year, please note you have up until the 28th of February 2018 to invest. This does not mean you cannot invest after, however your tax saving will only be for the 2019 year.

Yesterday we also got the ‘exciting’ news that the World Bank predicts a 1.1% growth in South Africans GDP for 2018. Only two countries, Equatorial Guinea and Zimbabwe were forecasted to have lower growth. This obviously is not a good signal for international investors but this does not mean South Africa is not full of opportunities. The GDP of a country is the indication of the average growth rate for the economy, but this is just an indication that on average, growth forecasts aren’t great. This does not always translate to business, and especially small business. It is true that business needs growth to perform at its peak, but it certainly doesn’t limit all business. We are still very positive on the small business in South Africa and feel that a nimble business with a strong team, will still provide high returns for investors.

Now to end the BitCap theme. No, we are not changing our philosophy for the fund just yet, and buying up all crypo’s available to us, but instead, as Mr Warren Buffet has done over his career, we continue to find small businesses that will become big businesses.
